Staff Platform Engineer, Universal Directory

About the role

Okta is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Universal Directory Platform team. You will help maintain the central identity source of truth that powers enterprise security infrastructure.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Manage the full development lifecycle for the identity management group, including technical design, Jira tracking, code reviews, testing, and deployment.
• Create and maintain frameworks and tooling for the Universal Directory Service.
• Architect distributed, fault-tolerant software components that prioritize high performance and scalability.
• Resolve customer issues and implement bug fixes with speed.
• Perform code reviews and oversee automated testing procedures.
• Collaborate with Product Development, QA, and Site Reliability Engineering teams to scope and deploy platform updates.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software development experience using Java, with a strong preference for Hibernate and Spring Boot expertise.
• 5+ years of experience building services, internal frameworks, and tools.
• 3+ years of experience automating and deploying large-scale production services on platforms like AWS or GCP.
• Practical experience working with SQL databases.
• Experience managing systems ranging from monolithic architectures to microservices.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across distributed teams.

Nice to have

• B.S. in Computer Science or an equivalent degree.
• Proficiency in the Go programming language.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Background working with Active Directory or Microsoft Azure.
