About the role
Nominal is seeking a Software Engineer to join our Developer Infrastructure team. In this position, you will enhance and maintain the build infrastructure essential for our engineering teams. Your focus will be on optimizing build performance and improving the developer experience to accommodate our expanding engineering organization.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Develop and optimize Nominal's extensive build systems, prioritizing Bazel.
- Enhance the performance of CI/CD pipelines and ensure reliable release automation.
- Manage developer infrastructure to support engineering speed and maintain high release quality as our monorepo and team grow.
- Create and sustain observability, telemetry, logging, and metrics infrastructure utilizing tools like Datadog, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry.
- Collaborate with product engineering teams to minimize developer friction and boost daily productivity.
Requirements
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in building, optimizing, and maintaining large-scale build systems.
- Familiarity with Bazel or similar build systems.
- Experience in managing and scaling large monorepos.
- Proven track record of enhancing CI/CD performance, release reliability, and developer productivity with measurable results.
- Practical engineering mindset; able to balance perfection with practicality while solving problems from foundational principles.
- Comfortable taking ownership of developer infrastructure, covering build tooling, CI/CD, release automation, and overall engineering productivity.
Nice to have
- Experience with Datadog
- Familiarity with Grafana
- Knowledge of OpenTelemetry
- Understanding of audit logging
- Experience with Kubernetes
- Familiarity with remote build caches
- Knowledge of ephemeral development environments or other developer platform tools.

Compensation
The salary range for this position is between $130,000 and $230,000 annually.
