About the role
Nominal is seeking a Frontend Software Engineer to enhance our platform that supports advanced hardware systems. In this position, you will create user-friendly interfaces that allow engineers to analyze and act on large volumes of telemetry data. You will collaborate closely with various teams to transform complex data into actionable insights while ensuring the product remains intuitive and powerful.

What you'll do
- Design user interfaces that facilitate the exploration and understanding of extensive telemetry and operational data.
- Collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams to convert loosely defined concepts into user-friendly experiences.
- Develop scalable frontend architecture using React, TypeScript, and modern web technologies, focusing on application state, data fetching, and performance.
- Create experiences that simplify complex functionalities for users, emphasizing information architecture and interaction design.
- Optimize interfaces for real-time updates and large datasets, ensuring high usability and performance.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in product development for technical users, including involvement in data modeling.
- Proficiency in TypeScript and modern frontend architecture, with a solid understanding of frontend and backend system interactions.
- Experience with products that handle large datasets, real-time systems, observability tools, developer tools, infrastructure software, GIS, security products, or financial systems.
- Proven ability to navigate ambiguity by defining problems and iterating with users.
- Strong product instincts, with a focus on understanding user needs and challenging assumptions.
- A systems-oriented mindset, capable of reasoning about data models and user workflows before implementation.
- Excellent communication skills to articulate technical and product trade-offs effectively across teams.
Nice to have
- Experience designing products with complex object models and workflows rather than simple CRUD interfaces.
- Familiarity with optimizing rendering, managing large datasets, and enhancing browser performance.
- Background in building data exploration tools or visualization systems involving complex datasets.

Compensation
The salary range for this position is between $225,000 and $275,000 per year.
