Forward Deployed Engineer Intern - AI Implementation

About the role

Nextiva is seeking an intern to join our engineering team in Scottsdale to help integrate AI solutions into our customer experience platform. You will work directly on the implementation of our XBert AI technology to improve how businesses handle automated customer conversations.

What you'll do

• Assist in the deployment of AI-driven tools including AI Employee, Agent Assist, and AI Voice Agent.
• Configure and test AI workflows within the NEXT platform to ensure accurate customer interactions.
• Collaborate with engineering staff to integrate AI capabilities into existing voice, text, and chat communication channels.
• Support the technical setup of AI receptionists and automated voice agents for various industry-specific solutions.

Requirements

• Current student pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Ability to work onsite in our Scottsdale office.
• Foundational understanding of AI, machine learning, or conversational interface development.
• Strong problem-solving skills and interest in building scalable customer experience software.

Nice to have

• Experience with cloud-based communication systems or contact center technologies.
• Familiarity with API integrations and data analytics tools.
• Previous project work involving natural language processing or automated customer service applications.

Skills & tools

• Proficiency in modern programming languages.
• Familiarity with AI and automation frameworks.
• Understanding of cloud infrastructure and unified communication platforms.

• This is an onsite position based in Scottsdale, Arizona.
