Principal Product Manager

About the role

New Relic is building AI Observability, a key strategic initiative to help companies understand their AI systems in production. This role operates like a startup within the company, with direct executive support and a focus on rapid development. You will guide this product from its initial concept through general availability and beyond, working with major AI deployments.

What you'll do

• Manage the AI Observability product roadmap and key business metrics like adoption, retention, and expansion. This includes pricing, executive updates, and resolving cross-functional issues.
• Lead multiple engineering and design teams towards a unified product vision without direct managerial authority.
• Collaborate with strategic enterprise clients, specifically their platform and infrastructure teams, to understand AI operational challenges at scale and translate them into product requirements quickly.
• Create functional prototypes using agentic AI workflows to validate ideas before committing engineering resources.
• Represent AI Observability in executive discussions about strategy and priorities, making decisions when conflicts arise.
• Oversee the product launch to general availability and continue iterating on pricing, packaging, and new features requested by GA customers.

Requirements

• 8 or more years of product management experience, including taking a product area from initial vision through general availability and subsequent growth.
• Experience as a senior individual contributor who achieves results across various teams without formal management authority.
• Proven experience working directly with enterprise customers on production AI or LLM systems, focusing on aspects like tracing, evaluation, governance, cost, or failure modes at scale.
• Regular and current use of multiple concurrent AI agents in your own work, operating asynchronously with a trusted verification process rather than manual review. This is a strict requirement, not a preference, and applies to all aspects of the job including specifications, prototypes, evaluation, research, and go-to-market strategies.
• Experience representing a product area in executive-level strategy and prioritization discussions.

Nice to have

• Previous experience in observability, APM, security, or developer tools.
• Experience handling customer escalations at the VP or CTO level.
• A public record (through writing, talks, or open source contributions) demonstrating your personal use of agentic AI workflows.
• Experience in building or shaping the verification and review systems that your team relies on for running AI agents at scale, beyond just operating within existing systems.
