About the role
NetCyberOps is looking for a junior backend developer to help enhance our security platform. You will contribute to our web application, focusing on the API that clients use for security management. This role offers a chance to learn and grow within a security-focused environment.

What you'll do
- Develop and update Python REST API components, starting with guided tasks and progressing to feature ownership.
- Create and modify database queries and schema changes, with a focus on performance and data integrity.
- Assist in building backend systems for processing and delivering security alerts.
- Write automated tests for your code to ensure quality and functionality.
- Participate in code reviews, offering feedback and learning from others.
- Learn API design principles and data modeling, and contribute to discussions.
- Help improve development tools, continuous integration processes, and documentation.
Requirements
- 0-2 years of professional experience, including internships, co-ops, bootcamps, open-source contributions, or significant personal projects.
- Ability to write understandable code and articulate your development choices.
- Strong Python fundamentals, including data structures, error handling, testing, and the ability to comprehend new code.
- Practical knowledge of SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL, including query writing and schema understanding.
- Basic understanding of API concepts like HTTP methods, status codes, authentication, and input validation.
- Effective written and spoken English communication.
Nice to have
- Experience building web APIs with Python, preferably Flask, but other frameworks like Django or FastAPI are acceptable if you are willing to learn Flask.
- Familiarity with security software like SIEM, SOAR, or vulnerability management tools.
- Knowledge of common web security risks (OWASP Top 10) and basic security practices.
- Exposure to React and JavaScript.
- Proficiency with Git and a general understanding of code review and CI/CD workflows.
- A public portfolio or GitHub profile showcasing your work.
