Software Engineer - Core Systems and Storage Roles at NetApp.
About the role
NetApp is hiring systems-level engineers to build and maintain the foundational technology behind our data infrastructure. You will work on core storage components, distributed systems, and protocol stacks that support our enterprise customers. These roles span multiple levels and teams, focusing on the performance and reliability of products like ONTAP and WAFL.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Design, build, and optimize features for ONTAP and related storage systems.
- Write efficient C/C++ code for complex storage environments.
- Perform deep-dive debugging using system-level profiling and tracing tools.
- Analyze and improve code paths for scalability, latency, and throughput.
- Collaborate with hardware, cloud, and product teams to deliver storage solutions.
- Use AI-assisted tools to support development, testing, and troubleshooting workflows.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to architectural design discussions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong C/C++ proficiency for systems-level programming.
- Knowledge of memory management, concurrency, algorithms, and data structures.
- Experience with Unix/Linux systems programming.
- 5 to 8 years of experience for Level 3 roles, 9 to 15 years for Level 4, and 12 to 16 years for Level 5.
- Background in at least one of the following: filesystems, storage systems, networking protocols, distributed systems, or high-availability architectures.
Nice to have
- Experience with ONTAP, WAFL, or similar storage operating systems.
- Familiarity with NFS, SMB, SAN (iSCSI/FC), NVMe/TCP, or NVMe-oF.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, GCP, or OCI.
- Understanding of kernel subsystems, VFS, IO schedulers, or caching layers.
- Experience with replication, consistency protocols, or clustering.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
