Software Engineer, Data at Neighbor.
About the role
Neighbor is expanding its marketplace for self-storage and parking across all 50 states. We are looking for our first dedicated data engineer to build the infrastructure that turns raw events into reliable business intelligence.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Architect and maintain pipelines that ingest information from APIs, production databases, and event streams.
- Create and manage a semantic layer that allows stakeholders to access data without needing to understand the underlying architecture.
- Implement engineering standards such as CI/CD, version control, and automated testing for all data workflows.
- Manage cloud compute performance and data model efficiency to support rapid scaling.
- Partner with Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Finance teams to align infrastructure with company goals.
- Provide mentorship to data analysts and scientists regarding pipeline design, testing, and code reviews.
- Perform independent analysis to translate raw data into business value.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years focused on data or analytics engineering.
- Bachelor degree in a quantitative field such as Math, Physics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Expert SQL skills, including the ability to tune complex queries for high-volume environments.
- Experience building and maintaining cloud data warehouses or data lakes.
- Proficiency in ETL/ELT patterns, including ingestion, transformation, and automated cleansing.
- Ability to communicate complex data findings to non-technical stakeholders.
