Senior Bioinformatics Scientist

About the role

Join Natera's Bioinformatics team to advance early cancer detection. You will develop computational solutions and algorithms for analyzing genomic data. This role involves both independent contributions and collaboration across departments within Research and Development.

What you'll do

• Design, build, and validate advanced algorithms and statistical models for early cancer detection from genomic datasets.
• Implement and deploy automated analysis workflows for clinical diagnostics, focusing on variant calling, fusion detection, and quality control.
• Participate in code reviews, create technical documentation, and improve core computational infrastructure.
• Analyze multi-omic data using internal pipelines, working with wet-lab scientists and statisticians to achieve research goals.

Requirements

• PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Cancer Biology, or a related field.
• 0-3 years of professional or postgraduate experience in bioinformatics or computational biology.
• Demonstrated ability to present complex computational findings to diverse groups.
• Deep knowledge of high-throughput DNA sequencing (NGS) analysis, including alignment, mapping, and clinical-grade variant calling.
• Proven experience developing impactful bioinformatics methodologies.
• Advanced understanding of data structures, algorithm design, and computational complexity.
• High proficiency in Python and its scientific libraries (NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn).
• Experience with workflow orchestration languages (WDL preferred) for scalable bioinformatics pipelines.
• Experience with cloud-based distributed computing environments, specifically AWS.
• Familiarity with current analytical techniques and biomarkers in cancer biology.
• Working knowledge of public genomic databases like TCGA, COSMIC, or OncoKB.
• Proficiency in Linux environments, including command-line tools and shell scripting.
