About the role
Nash is seeking its first Data Scientist to build data products from initial concept to production and ongoing measurement. This role involves applying product insight and machine learning skills to complex logistics and marketplace challenges. You will influence real-world decisions across millions of deliveries for major retailers.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Find and define high-impact projects related to pricing, dispatch, carrier selection, and ETA prediction.
- Take ownership of data science initiatives, from initial exploration to deployment and performance improvement.
- Work with large, complex operational datasets, including delivery events and geospatial information.
- Create models that account for real-world logistics constraints, changing demand, and service requirements.
- Build production data pipelines and integrate models using Python, SQL, and Snowflake.
- Collaborate with engineers to deploy models via APIs, batch processes, or real-time systems.
- Develop frameworks for evaluation, monitoring, experimentation, and A/B testing.
- Measure model performance against business outcomes like cost, reliability, and on-time delivery.
- Engage directly with enterprise customers to understand their operations and translate needs into technical solutions.
- Clearly communicate findings, trade-offs, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience in a data science, machine learning engineering, or similar quantitative role.
- Experience in logistics, marketplaces, supply chain, or operations research, dealing with complex real-world constraints.
- A proven track record of independently managing data science projects from problem definition to production and measurement.
- Strong skills in Python and SQL, with experience using cloud data warehouses; Snowflake experience is preferred.
- Experience building and maintaining machine learning systems in production environments.
- Strong product judgment and the ability to link modeling decisions to customer and business results.
- Comfortable working with incomplete data, ambiguous questions, and changing operational conditions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including experience interacting with customers or senior stakeholders.
- High initiative in a fast-paced setting, identifying and addressing valuable problems proactively.
Nice to have
- Experience with routing, ETA modeling, optimization algorithms, or geospatial data.
- Familiarity with dispatch systems, carrier networks, logistics marketplaces, or pricing models.
- Experience with supply-demand forecasting or marketplace balancing.
- Exposure to dbt, Airflow, or similar data orchestration tools.
- Experience deploying models through APIs or real-time decision systems.
- Previous experience at an early-stage company or in a foundational data role.
