About the role
Mozilla is looking for a Senior Mobile Engineer with deep iOS expertise to contribute to their open-source mission. What you'll do
- Architect and develop iOS applications using modern frameworks and best practices for the Mozilla ecosystem.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code for mobile features and supporting services.
- Collaborate closely with product managers and designers to define technical approaches and trade-offs.
- Review peer code thoroughly and provide constructive feedback to improve overall quality.
- Debug and resolve complex technical issues in existing mobile codebases efficiently.
- Participate in on-call rotation schedules to provide support for production applications.
- Contribute to internal tools and infrastructure that improve team productivity and workflow.
- Evaluate new technologies and recommend meaningful improvements to the mobile development stack.
- Document architectural decisions and detailed technical specifications for future reference and onboarding.
- Mentor mid-level and junior engineers through pair programming, code reviews, and guidance.
- Optimize application performance and memory usage to ensure smooth and responsive user experiences.
- Engage with the open-source community to gather feedback and prioritize feature requests.
- Participate in sprint planning and backlog grooming sessions with the broader engineering team.
- Ensure accessibility standards are met across all mobile applications and features.
- Collaborate with QA engineers to identify and address testing gaps in mobile features.
- Support the integration of new SDKs and third-party libraries into existing iOS codebases.
- Write comprehensive technical documentation and API references for internal and external consumers.
Requirements
- Proven experience building iOS applications using both Swift and Objective-C programming languages.
- Strong understanding of UIKit, SwiftUI, and the complete iOS application lifecycle.
- Hands-on experience with RESTful APIs and integrating backend services into mobile applications.
- Familiarity with distributed version control systems, particularly Git-based collaboration and branching workflows.
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively in a fully remote setting.
- A bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent practical experience in software development.
- Several years of professional software development experience focused on mobile platforms.
- Comfortable with the full software development lifecycle from initial design through deployment.
- Experience with continuous integration and automated testing pipelines for mobile applications.
- Solid grasp of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design principles and patterns.
- Experience with mobile analytics platforms and performance monitoring tools for iOS.
- Knowledge of app store submission processes and Apple developer program requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

- Experience contributing to or using Mozilla's mobile applications and related tools.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks specifically for iOS.
- Familiarity with cross-platform mobile frameworks like React Native or Flutter.
