About the role
Motional is building autonomous driving technology for production vehicles, and the Senior Vehicle Integration Engineer plays a central part in connecting software and hardware systems inside the car. This role involves working closely with vehicle OEM partners to ensure that Motional's self-driving stack operates reliably within production-grade automotive platforms. The engineer will lead integration efforts across multiple vehicle programs, translating system requirements into working implementations on real hardware. The Senior Vehicle Integration Engineer will also contribute to architectural decisions that shape how future autonomous features are deployed across different vehicle models and OEM partnerships.

What you'll do
- Lead the integration of autonomous driving software onto production vehicle platforms in close collaboration with OEM engineering teams.
- Define and execute comprehensive vehicle-level test plans to validate system behavior under a wide range of real driving conditions.
- Work alongside embedded engineers to configure and calibrate sensors, compute hardware, and vehicle communication buses for optimal performance.
- Diagnose and resolve vehicle-level issues that arise during integration testing, on-road validation, and field deployment scenarios.
- Develop robust interfaces and middleware that connect Motional's perception and planning stacks to vehicle subsystems and control modules.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams including perception, controls, and cloud infrastructure groups to align integration milestones and deliverables.
- Document all integration procedures, known issues, resolution steps, and configuration details for each active vehicle program.
- Support field deployment teams by providing hands-on technical guidance during vehicle setup, commissioning, and initial calibration.
- Evaluate new vehicle models and hardware revisions for compatibility with Motional's autonomous driving software stack.
- Drive continuous improvement of integration workflows, tooling, and processes to reduce turnaround time and increase overall reliability.
- Participate in design reviews with OEM partners to assess integration feasibility and identify potential technical risks early.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of automotive industry standards and best practices relevant to vehicle software integration.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
- Five or more years of hands-on experience in automotive software integration, embedded systems development, or vehicle engineering roles.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with CAN bus, Ethernet automotive protocols, or similar vehicle communication and networking standards.
- Solid familiarity with Linux-based embedded systems and real-time operating systems commonly deployed in production vehicles.
- Strong understanding of how perception sensors such as cameras, lidar, and radar interface with vehicle computing platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple vehicle programs simultaneously while meeting integration milestones and quality expectations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with both internal engineering teams and external OEM partners.
- Willingness to travel to vehicle test tracks, proving grounds, and OEM facilities as integration project needs require.
- Experience with version control systems, build tools, and software delivery pipelines typical of embedded automotive environments.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of integration tasks while coordinating across distributed engineering organizations.
Nice to have
- Experience with ROS or ROS 2 middleware in an automotive, robotics, or autonomous vehicle development context.
- Prior exposure to functional safety standards such as ISO 26262 or process frameworks like ASPICE.
- Background in over-the-air update systems, vehicle fleet management workflows, and fleet telemetry data pipelines.
- Knowledge of automotive diagnostic tools and vehicle network analysis software for troubleshooting integration issues.
