About the role
This Staff Software Engineer position within the Command Center at Motional is centered on developing the software that controls and monitors Motional's autonomous vehicle fleet. You will be instrumental in building the core systems that enable remote operation and oversight of self-driving cars. The role focuses on owning the design and implementation of critical operational tools and infrastructure for the Command Center. You will be responsible for developing systems that monitor and interact with autonomous vehicles in real time. What you'll do
- Architect and develop software for the Command Center's operational tools, ensuring high performance and scalability for fleet oversight.
- Engineer systems for monitoring and interacting with autonomous vehicles, focusing on real-time data processing, visualization, and command and control capabilities.
- Enhance the reliability and efficiency of fleet management software through careful design, implementation, and optimization of core infrastructure.
- Partner with cross-functional engineering teams to seamlessly integrate new features, tools, and services into the Command Center ecosystem.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex issues within real-time operational environments, resolving problems under tight constraints to maintain fleet safety.
- Implement robust solutions that handle the demanding requirements of autonomous vehicle command, control, and remote operation.
- Optimize existing codebases to improve execution speed, resource utilization, and the overall efficiency of critical operational workflows.
- Translate complex system requirements into technical specifications and software architecture, defining the foundation for operational tools.
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from initial design and architecture through deployment, maintenance, and continuous improvement.
- Act as a technical lead for specific components within the Command Center ecosystem, guiding implementation and best practices.
Requirements
- Possess experience with distributed systems and real-time applications, demonstrating a strong grasp of the principles necessary for managing autonomous vehicle fleets.
- Show proficiency in C++ or Python for software development, with a proven track record of building and maintaining production-grade systems.
- Have a solid understanding of robotics or autonomous systems concepts to effectively contribute to the domain-specific challenges of the role.
- Demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced development cycle, adapting to shifting priorities and rapidly evolving requirements.
- Exhibit strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities to dissect complex technical challenges and devise efficient solutions.
- Hold the capability to write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code to ensure long-term project health and facilitate collaboration.
- Bring experience with version control systems, specifically Git, for effective collaborative software development and code review.
