National Internship in Official Statistics (NIOS) at MoSPI
About the role
This internship provides students with an opportunity to gain insights into the official statistics system in India. Interns will engage with various aspects of statistical work, including data collection and analysis, while working closely with the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).

What you'll do
- Participate in the production and utilization of official statistics across India.
- Gain practical experience in MoSPI's diverse areas, including national accounts, energy statistics, and survey programs.
- Engage in the entire statistical process, from data collection to publication and dissemination.
Requirements
- Applicants must be bonafide students from recognized universities in India or abroad.
- Undergraduates must have completed or appeared for their second-year exams, with a focus on statistics or mathematics, and achieved at least 75% in Class 12.
- Postgraduate students in any year with statistics or mathematics in their curriculum are eligible.
- Research or Ph.D. students in relevant fields must have at least 70% in their undergraduate studies.
- Recent graduates or postgraduates must have completed their degrees within the last two years with a minimum of 70% marks.
- Current degree students may apply only for 2-3 month internship slots.
Nice to have
- Prior experience or coursework in statistics or related fields is beneficial but not mandatory.
Skills & tools
- Strong analytical skills and familiarity with statistical concepts.
- Proficiency in data processing and analysis tools is advantageous.
- Effective communication skills for report writing and presentations.
Practical notes
- Visa and travel arrangements are not provided by MoSPI.
- Internships do not guarantee future employment with the government.
- Interested candidates should apply through the MoSPI portal during the application window, which is open from August 4 to August 31, 2026, for the second phase of NIOS 2026-27.
- The application process includes creating an account, completing a profile, uploading necessary documents, and selecting preferences for the internship.
- Selected interns will need to submit their bank details for stipend disbursement via electronic transfer.
