What you'll do
Manage the daily operations of accountability regimes, including SMCR and IAF/SEAR, ensuring all processes, controls, and deadlines are met to a high standard.
Oversee routine activities such as fit and proper assessments, certification processes, accountability mapping, governance documentation, and regulatory filings.
Coordinate team priorities and ensure timely delivery of all assigned tasks.
Serve as a subject matter expert on accountability and people governance, guiding stakeholders through complex issues and facilitating well-informed, risk-aware decisions.
Develop and enhance the broader people governance framework, covering areas like people-related risk management, controls, decision-making processes, and organizational changes.
Identify and implement improvements to existing processes, controls, and tools to increase efficiency, scalability, and user-friendliness of the frameworks.
Collaborate with teams across People, Legal, Compliance, Risk & Controls, Company Secretariat, the Board, and the wider business to achieve objectives and maintain momentum.
Support audits, assurance activities, and regulatory interactions by providing thorough evidence, documentation, and process management.
Utilize data and insights to identify trends, pinpoint risks, prioritize improvement initiatives, and shape the team's operational strategy.
Work closely with the People Governance & Accountability Lead on significant risk areas, strategic shifts, and the ongoing refinement of global frameworks.
Requirements
Demonstrated experience in a regulated industry, with a background in governance, compliance, risk, or legal functions.
Practical experience with SMCR within a UK dual-regulated firm (FCA/PRA), and familiarity with IAF/SEAR or comparable accountability frameworks.
Ability to translate complex regulatory or policy requirements into straightforward, actionable processes, training materials, and guidance.
Proven track record of planning and managing projects from inception to completion, ensuring successful delivery and adherence to timelines.
A collaborative and thoughtful approach to problem-solving, with a strong ability to bring diverse stakeholders together.
Excellent communication skills, both written for governance papers and verbal for discussing nuanced decisions and improving processes.
Comfortable building relationships with senior stakeholders and presenting information in senior-level forums.
Ability to work autonomously, adapt to evolving priorities, and quickly focus on high-risk areas when necessary.
A proactive mindset for building and refining operational processes, identifying gaps, establishing structure, and creating more effective and reliable workflows.
Proficiency in using data and sound judgment to make pragmatic recommendations, even when faced with ambiguity.
Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment that requires balancing control, speed, and practicality.
