About the role
Monzo is seeking a Senior Product Data Scientist to join our team in Barcelona and help shape the future of banking. You will focus on improving user engagement and driving product strategy through data-driven insights for our 15 million customers. In this capacity, you will own the design and execution of advanced analytical projects that directly influence product decisions and business outcomes. You will act as a quantitative partner to product managers, translating ambiguous problems into testable hypotheses and measurable success criteria. The role requires you to bridge the gap between complex data science methodologies and actionable business strategies. You will be responsible for ensuring that the insights generated are not only statistically sound but also practical and impactful for the business. This position is critical for fostering a data-centric culture within the Barcelona product teams.

What you'll do
- Perform quantitative analysis and data mining to interpret user behavior and inform product direction.
- Support product teams in defining key metrics and managing A/B experiments.
- Collaborate with the finance department to analyze user lifetime value and the profitability of specific product features.
- Work alongside engineers to ensure data collection processes support accurate business insights.
- Design and implement sophisticated SQL queries and Python scripts to extract high-quality insights from large-scale datasets.
- Partner with product managers to define and track key performance indicators, ensuring alignment between data metrics and business objectives.
- Lead the development and analysis of A/B tests to evaluate the impact of new features on user behavior and financial outcomes.
- Conduct in-depth cohort and retention analysis to uncover patterns in user engagement and identify opportunities for product optimization.
- Collaborate closely with the finance team to model customer lifetime value and assess the profitability of specific product initiatives.
- Work with engineering teams to refine data collection architectures, ensuring the integrity and reliability of datasets for analysis.
- Develop and maintain dashboards in Looker to enable self-serve analytics for stakeholders across the organization.
- Translate complex analytical findings into clear narratives and visualizations that guide strategic decision-making.
- Proactively identify areas for process improvement and propose data-driven solutions to enhance team efficiency.
- Contribute to the development of best practices for experimentation and data interpretation within the data science community.
Requirements
- Proven experience in SQL and Python.
- Demonstrated history of executing large-scale A/B experiments.
- Commercial awareness with the ability to translate data into business strategy.
- Proactive, self-starting mindset with a focus on team collaboration and measurable impact.

Practical notes
- The hiring process takes approximately 2 to 3 weeks and consists of a recruiter call, an initial call, a technical interview, and a final stage featuring a case study and collaboration interview.
