Senior Site Reliability Engineer, Fleet Management at MongoDB.

About the role

The Fleet Management team builds the runtime environments that allow developers to deploy products. We are currently transitioning our infrastructure from Terraform-based setups to an operator-driven lifecycle model to support our Kubernetes fleet.

Key facts

Location: Austin, Boston, Los Angeles, New York City, Raleigh, San Francisco, remote in the United States, or Dublin, Ireland.

Engagement: Full-time.

Salary: $127,000 to $249,000 USD (U.S. based).

Team: Platform Engineering.

What you'll do

Develop and maintain secure, scalable runtime environments built on Kubernetes for internal use.
Provide technical support for the Kubernetes ecosystem and assist engineering teams with domain-specific challenges.
Join a 24/7 on-call rotation to address production incidents.
Conduct blameless post-mortems and implement systemic changes to prevent recurring issues.

Requirements

6+ years of experience in software development and managing distributed systems.
Proficiency in Go, Python, or similar languages with a focus on unit, integration, and E2E testing.
Extensive experience operating and extending containerization technologies, specifically Kubernetes.
Knowledge of Linux internals and networking, including TCP/IP, DNS, TLS, and filesystems.
Strong operational ownership and a history of resolving complex production problems.
A preference for automation over manual tasks.

Nice to have

Experience building secure, multi-tenant runtime environments.
Knowledge of Kubernetes tools like Helm, Kustomize, Gatekeeper, Kyverno, CRDs, Operators, CRI, and CSI.
Background in AWS, GCP, or Azure cloud platforms.
Experience with infrastructure provisioning tools such as Terraform, Crossplane, and ACK.
Advanced understanding of Linux internals related to containers, such as cgroups and namespaces.
