Manager, Quality Operations Engineer

Misfits Market is seeking a hands-on Quality Engineer Manager to lead quality strategy and compliance at our Northlake, IL fulfillment center. This role bridges the gap between high-level quality objectives and daily warehouse operations, focusing on continuous improvement, regulatory compliance, and team mentorship.

What you'll do

• Supervise and mentor the Food Safety and Quality Assurance Supervisor.
• Conduct floor audits of picking, packing, shipping, and sanitation to maintain the Perfect Box standard.
• Lead investigations into internal errors and customer complaints using predictive metrics.
• Collaborate with Inbound and Inventory teams to define acceptance criteria for goods.
• Manage CAPA activities and design workflows to reduce process bottlenecks and product shrink.
• Develop and deploy SOPs and work instructions via the e-QMS.
• Lead cross-functional quality initiatives and change management projects.
• Use statistical tools like SPC and Pareto charts to report performance to regional leadership.
• Ensure compliance with FDA, USDA, and state regulations while preparing for third-party audits.
• Drive SQF benchmarking targets and maintain food safety and quality plans.
• Lead mock recall exercises to ensure 100% recovery target rates.
• Spend 50% of work time on the warehouse floor in temperatures of 36°F or lower.

Requirements

• Bachelor degree in Engineering, Food Science, Supply Chain, or related technical field.
• 3 to 5 years of experience in Quality Assurance, Continuous Improvement, or Process Engineering within food production or high-volume fulfillment.
• Proficiency in data analysis, statistical process control, and project management.
• HACCP certification and SQF Practitioner certification.
• Knowledge of FDA, USDA-AMS, FSIS, GFSI, and FSMA regulations.
• Ability to communicate technical quality standards to warehouse staff.

Nice to have

• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.
• Experience implementing or maintaining SQF, BRC, or ISO 9001 systems.
• Spanish language proficiency.

Skills & tools

• Data analysis tools including Excel, Google Sheets, SQL, or Tableau.
• Lean Six Sigma principles.
• Root cause analysis methodologies such as 5 Whys and Fishbone.
• Electronic Quality Management Systems (e-QMS) and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
