Creative Director

About the role

Misfits Market is looking for a Creative Director to oversee our visual identity and lead our internal studio team. You will manage a mix of in-house designers, video producers, and contract photographers while supervising external agencies for private-label packaging. This position requires a blend of high-level brand strategy and hands-on execution across digital and physical platforms.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Manage and mentor the internal creative team, including performance reviews and career development.
• Evolve the brand identity system, covering typography, color, iconography, and motion language.
• Direct external partners and agencies on private-label packaging, TV, and out-of-home campaigns.
• Oversee creative output for email systems, landing pages, and paid or organic social media.
• Plan and direct photography shoots, including prop sourcing and on-set management.
• Collaborate with the Product team on design systems, accessibility, and conversion-focused landing pages.
• Establish and refine creative workflows, asset management, and quality control processes.

Requirements

• 8-10 years of experience in creative leadership or visual design within a direct-to-consumer environment.
• Demonstrated history of managing external agencies and freelance talent.
• Portfolio showing high-level design work across digital, email, motion, and editorial formats.
• Expertise in typography, layout, color theory, and visual storytelling.
• Proven ability to manage complex projects under tight deadlines in a startup setting.
• Proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.

Nice to have

• Experience with packaging regulations and print production.
• Advanced motion design skills, specifically in After Effects.
• Previous work on TV or large-scale out-of-home activations.

Practical notes

Salary range is $160,000 to $170,000 plus employee stock options. Benefits include unlimited PTO, 401K, life insurance, and multiple health, dental, and vision plan options.
