About the role
Misfits Market seeks a Category Manager for Meat & Seafood to guide category strategy within our Non-Produce department. This role involves managing product assortments, negotiating with vendors, and ensuring product quality. You will also oversee retail pricing and develop compelling product narratives.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Develop and implement category strategies to align with company objectives and optimize product offerings.
- Take ownership of the category's profit and loss, negotiating to achieve targets for revenue, profit, SKU productivity, quality, and food waste reduction.
- Cultivate vendor relationships, focusing on competitive pricing, product quality, and timely deliveries.
- Conduct market research to identify trends, competitor actions, and consumer preferences, providing insights for category decisions.
- Collaborate with Inventory Planning, Operations, Logistics, Marketing, Product Development, and IT to execute category strategies.
- Support sustainability initiatives within the category, aiming to reduce food waste and identify areas for improvement.
- Assist with projects related to category expansion and process enhancements, ensuring effective execution with various teams.
- Work with product development teams to discover new product opportunities based on customer demand and market trends.
- Report directly to the Sr. Director of Category Management, contributing to the achievement of strategic goals and key initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional industry experience.
- 4-6 years of grocery retail or grocery sourcing experience is preferred.
- Experience in buying and strong negotiation skills.
- Strategic and financial planning abilities with a solid understanding of P/L statements, general ledgers, and margins.
- Strong knowledge of the food industry with existing relationships.
- Adaptable to a startup environment and willing to learn new programs and systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to work across multiple teams.
- Ability to think quickly and make thoughtful decisions.
- Proficiency with G-Suite, Excel, Word, and retail math.
