Category Manager - Meat & Sea Food

About the role

This role is central to managing and growing our meat and seafood offerings. You will be responsible for developing category strategies, nurturing supplier partnerships, and ensuring our product assortment meets customer needs while supporting our mission to reduce food waste.

What you'll do

• Develop and implement category plans to optimize product selection and achieve business objectives.
• Manage the financial performance of your categories, including revenue and profit targets.
• Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, focusing on competitive pricing and product quality.
• Analyze market trends and consumer preferences to inform category decisions.
• Collaborate with internal teams such as Inventory Planning, Marketing, and Operations to execute strategies.
• Contribute to sustainability efforts by identifying opportunities to minimize food waste within your categories.
• Support new product development initiatives based on market demand.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in the industry.
• 4 to 6 years of experience in grocery retail or sourcing.
• Proven experience in buying and strong negotiation abilities.
• Demonstrated ability in strategic and financial planning, including understanding P&L statements and margins.
• Solid knowledge of the food industry.
• Ability to adapt to a dynamic startup environment and learn new systems.
• Excellent communication skills for effective cross-team collaboration.
• Proficiency in G-Suite, Excel, Word, and retail math.

Practical notes

• Travel requirement: Up to 25% for trade shows and team events.
• Salary range: $90,000 - $110,000 annually.
