Software Engineer II

About the role

This position focuses on Windows debugging and technical problem-solving to support Commercial and Enterprise clients. You will work within the Windows Servicing and Delivery team to improve product reliability and performance while mentoring other engineers.

• Design, develop, and maintain software solutions that improve Windows performance and user experience.
• Use diagnostic tools and source code analysis to resolve complex technical issues.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align on technical goals and gather requirements.
• Review code and share technical best practices with engineering peers.
• Analyze customer feedback and product usage data to drive feature improvements.
• Lead projects and provide technical guidance through mentoring and incident response.

Requirements

• Bachelor degree in Computer Science or a related technical field plus 2 years of engineering experience, or equivalent experience.
• Proficiency in at least one of the following: C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• Ability to pass a Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire and every two years thereafter.

Nice to have

• Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related field plus 6 years of engineering experience, or equivalent.
• 4 years of experience in Windows Client/Server engineering or systems administration.
• 4 years of experience in customer-facing support, service engineering, or site reliability roles.
• Skills in log and data analysis using Perfmon, XPerf, ETL, or ETW.
• Knowledge of LSASS, Kerberos, and cloud authentication.
• Experience with Entra ID, hybrid authentication, and Active Directory.
• Familiarity with M365 technologies, Microsoft Intune, and device management.
• Ability to perform source code investigations in C, C++, or C#.
• Experience with Windows on Azure, including virtualization, containers, and hypervisors.
• Scripting skills in PowerShell or VB Script.
• Understanding of networking protocols and infrastructure troubleshooting.

Practical notes

• Base pay range is USD $102,100 - $202,200 per year, with a range of USD $133,800 - $219,200 for New York City and the San Francisco Bay area.
• The position will remain open for at least 5 days and will be filled on an ongoing basis.
