What you'll do

• Design and enhance distributed systems that are scalable, reliable, and secure, catering to both frontend and backend platforms.
• Spearhead the technical design and architecture for complex features and services, ensuring engineering excellence and sustainability.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Data Science, Engineering, and Platform teams to establish strategies, requirements, and execution plans.
• Oversee the complete delivery of critical projects, from design reviews to implementation and operational excellence.
• Utilize telemetry, A/B testing, and customer insights to identify improvement opportunities and enhance product performance.
• Mentor fellow engineers, providing technical guidance and fostering best practices through code and design reviews.
• Shape technical direction across various teams and contribute to overarching architectural decisions.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, along with a minimum of 4 years of technical engineering experience in programming languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python; or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• A Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, coupled with at least 6 years of technical engineering experience in relevant programming languages; or a Bachelor's Degree with 8 years of experience; or equivalent experience.
• Strong foundation in computer science principles, including data structures, algorithms, software design, and distributed systems.
• Proven track record in designing, building, deploying, and maintaining large-scale, secure cloud services.
• Exceptional skills in technical design, problem-solving, debugging, and performance optimization.
• Over 5 years of experience in architecting, developing, deploying, and managing distributed systems in a live environment.
• Ability to independently manage complex technical projects from inception to production with high quality and reliable execution.
• Experience leading technical design discussions and influencing engineering decisions across teams.
• Strong collaboration, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.
• Capability to navigate ambiguous situations, balancing immediate delivery with long-term technical investments.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms like Microsoft Azure, AWS, or similar services.
• Knowledge of modern web technologies, service-oriented architectures, and data-driven development practices.
• Experience in online advertising, search, e-commerce, AI-driven experiences, or large-scale consumer products is a plus.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Background in leading large-scale platform modernization, cloud migration, or architectural transformation initiatives.
• Experience with AI/ML-enabled products, recommendation systems, or data-intensive applications.
• History of mentoring engineers and promoting engineering excellence within an organization.
• Experience managing services at a global scale with a focus on reliability, performance, security, and compliance.

Skills & tools

• Proficiency in programming languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• Familiarity with cloud computing platforms such as Microsoft Azure or AWS.
• Knowledge of distributed systems, software design, and data-driven development methodologies.

• The typical base salary range for this role in the U.S. is between USD $119,800 and $234,700 annually, with variations for specific locations like the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City, where the range is USD $160,200 to $261,000.
