Research Scientist Intern, AI Alignment at Meta
About the role
Meta is focused on enhancing artificial intelligence through significant technological advancements that improve our understanding and interaction with the world. We are looking for individuals interested in areas such as deep learning, computer vision, optimization, natural language processing, machine learning, reinforcement learning, computational statistics, applied mathematics, and security/privacy. Interns will have the chance to contribute to algorithmic innovations and implement their ideas on a large scale.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Create innovative algorithms and systems using various deep learning methodologies.
- Evaluate and enhance different facets of algorithms and systems, focusing on efficiency, scalability, stability, fairness, security, and privacy.
- Conduct advanced research to push the boundaries of machine learning and artificial intelligence.
- Work alongside researchers and cross-functional teams, effectively communicating research objectives, progress, and findings.
- Publish research outcomes and contribute to projects that can be integrated into Meta's product offerings.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing or in the process of completing a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or a related technical discipline.
- Must secure work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain it throughout the internship.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, C, Java, or similar.
- Familiarity with deep learning frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow.
Nice to have
- Plans to return to academic studies following the internship.
- A history of notable achievements, evidenced by grants, fellowships, patents, or publications in prestigious workshops or conferences such as NeurIPS, ICLR, AAAI, RecSys, KDD, IJCAI, CVPR, ECCV, ACL, NAACL, EACL, ICASSP, CCS, IEEE S&P, MLSys, or similar.
- Experience in solving analytical challenges through quantitative methods.
- Background in developing large-scale machine learning systems and working with extensive datasets.
- Ability to convey complex research clearly and effectively.
- Demonstrated software engineering experience through internships, work experience, coding competitions, or contributions to open-source projects (e.g., GitHub).
- Experience collaborating and communicating within a team environment.

Practical notes
- Compensation ranges from $7,650 to $12,667 per month, plus benefits.
- Individual pay is based on skills, qualifications, experience, and location. The compensation listed reflects the base rate and does not include bonuses, equity, or sales incentives. In addition to base pay, Meta provides benefits. For more information on benefits, please visit Meta's website.
