About the role
Join the Reality Labs Research Software team to build the firmware foundations for next-generation wearable AI hardware. You will manage the full lifecycle of embedded systems, from initial board bring-up to complex sensor integration, enabling research breakthroughs in contextualized AI.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Architect, implement, and debug firmware for sensing and imaging hardware.
- Manage power consumption, boot loaders, and real-time task scheduling on microcontrollers and SoCs.
- Lead system bring-up phases including requirement definition, component selection, and proof-of-concept development.
- Establish and enforce embedded development standards and project backlogs.
- Integrate AI-driven tools to improve code generation, testing, and documentation workflows.
- Provide technical expertise during design reviews and cross-domain problem solving.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- 7+ years of embedded software experience, or 4+ years with a PhD.
- 3+ years of industry-specific embedded software development.
- Proficiency in C and C++ programming.
- Experience building custom hardware drivers and working with hardware debugging tools like logic analyzers and oscilloscopes.
- Ability to design firmware from data sheets and implement serial communication protocols.
- Experience with real-time operating systems such as Zephyr or FreeRTOS.
- Background in architecting systems that integrate multiple processors or subsystems.
Nice to have
- Master degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- Familiarity with wireless stacks including BLE, Wi-Fi, or proprietary RF.
- Experience with camera subsystems like MIPI CSI/DSI or ISP.
- Knowledge of AOSP in native environments.
- Experience working with international manufacturing partners.
- Practical application of ethical AI practices and risk assessment.
- Proven ability to use AI-assisted tools for workflow optimization and automated testing.
- Experience with SoC bring-up on platforms like Qualcomm, NXP, or ARM Cortex-A/M.
- Background in rapid prototyping and research environments.
