Senior Software Engineer at Mercury
About the role
This position involves enhancing the core frontend infrastructure that empowers Mercury's engineering teams. You will refine and expand the tools and systems that enable rapid, confident product development. The goal is to make frontend development an enjoyable and efficient experience for all engineers.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Improve the frontend architecture used by all Mercury engineers, updating React, TypeScript, and Vite to support faster and more reliable product releases.
- Introduce automation to streamline developer workflows, using tools like static analysis and LLM coding assistants to reduce repetitive tasks.
- Enhance the testing infrastructure to provide quick feedback and strong confidence in code quality, supporting both unit and visual testing.
- Optimize CI/CD pipelines to ensure stability, ease of use, and speed, supporting frequent deployments.
- Develop observability systems by combining technical metrics with developer feedback to inform decisions and build team confidence.
- Promote frontend development excellence by making best practices easy to follow and by sharing work externally.
Requirements
- 6-8+ years of software development experience, with a significant focus on frontend development and extensive experience with React and TypeScript.
- Proven ability to lead large engineering initiatives that span multiple teams, involve phased rollouts, or require research and consensus.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and guide discussions to successful outcomes.
- Experience maintaining internal libraries or platform tools relied upon by other developers.
- A proactive and helpful approach, prioritizing the improvement of other developers' workflows.
- Deep understanding of modern frontend development tools and processes, including build systems, CI/CD, hosting, and testing.
- Willingness to investigate complex web platform issues, including contributing to tools like Vite or resolving deployment problems.
- Ability to balance ambitious goals with practical realities, charting a realistic path to achieve them.

- US employees: Base salary range of $200,700 - 250,900.
- Canadian employees: Base salary range of CAD $189,700 - 237,100.
