This role focuses on managing and expanding our network of essential partners, particularly within the payroll sector, ensuring they align with our commitment to reliability and user experience. You will be instrumental in shaping these relationships and integrating partner capabilities into our product offerings.

What you'll do
- Oversee a group of strategic partnerships from inception to completion, with a primary focus on Mercury's payroll vendor network.
- Lead the process of selecting new vendors, including reviewing proposals and recommending partners that best fit Mercury's needs.
- Negotiate partnership agreements, considering financial terms and identifying opportunities for mutual benefit.
- Act as the internal authority on the payroll vendor landscape, cultivating and sharing knowledge within Mercury.
- Proactively monitor partner performance, address issues, and resolve escalations with efficiency and sound judgment.
- Facilitate productive discussions among product, legal, finance, and engineering teams to ensure alignment and remove obstacles.
Requirements
- More than 8 years of experience in strategic partnerships, with a proven history of managing deals from start to finish, including contract negotiations and relevant experience in banking or payroll product management.
- Experience working with or managing payroll products.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex and high-stakes relationships.
- Excellent communication and project management skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- A strong sense of empathy, particularly in regulated environments.
- A keen interest in product development and understanding how financial infrastructure supports user goals.
- Proven negotiation skills, capable of navigating complex commercial and regulatory discussions.
- Technical aptitude or comfort in collaborating with engineering and compliance teams on intricate systems.
- Ability to remain focused and composed while managing multiple critical tasks simultaneously.
- Creative problem-solving skills within regulatory and operational boundaries.

Practical notes
- Base salary range for US employees in New York City, Seattle, Los Angeles, or San Francisco: $180,900 - $226,100.
- Base salary range for US employees outside of New York City, Seattle, Los Angeles, or San Francisco: $162,800 - $203,500.
- Total rewards include base salary, equity (stock options), and benefits.
