Engagement: Full-time
Salary Range (US Employees in NYC, LA, Seattle, or SF Bay Area): $186,400 - $209,700
Salary Range (US Employees outside of NYC, LA, Seattle, or SF Bay Area): $167,800 - $188,700
Salary Range (Canadian Employees): $176,100 - $198,200 CAD
What you'll do
- Provide guidance on a variety of payments products and underlying infrastructure, including new product launches, operational challenges, and partner agreements.
- Collaborate closely with product, engineering, compliance, risk, and operations teams to integrate legal considerations into product design and strategy from the outset.
- Support the development and rollout of new payment capabilities, assisting teams in assessing risks and making informed decisions in uncertain situations.
- Work with financial crimes compliance teams on Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and sanctions matters, interpreting regulations and developing practical approaches.
- Develop scalable frameworks and guidance to enhance consistency and efficiency in legal decision-making across the organization.
- Explore and apply artificial intelligence tools to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of legal workflows.
- Adapt to evolving regulatory requirements and product advancements in the financial technology sector.
Requirements
- A minimum of 4 years of legal experience.
- Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. state.
- Prior experience advising fintech companies, banks, payment processors, or related entities on payments or AML regulations.
- A solid understanding of payments regulations and an interest in emerging areas like stablecoins.
- Familiarity with Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and AML regulations, as well as sanctions compliance.
- Excellent communication abilities, with a skill for tailoring messages to different audiences.
- Strong judgment and the ability to navigate situations with incomplete information.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to taking ownership.
- A genuine interest in financial products, infrastructure, and the regulatory environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of AI applications in legal or financial services and a desire to use AI for efficiency.
