About the role
Mercury is seeking a Staff Brand Designer to elevate our visual identity. This role is for a designer with a refined aesthetic and meticulous attention to detail who can significantly improve the quality of work around them. You will be responsible for the most intricate brand design tasks and will guide the Brand Studio's output.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Establish and maintain the quality standard for Mercury's brand across all touchpoints, including campaigns, digital platforms, social media, and events.
- Lead complex and high-impact brand design projects from inception to completion.
- Collaborate with creative leadership to shape the future visual direction of Mercury, defining standards for typography, imagery, layout, and motion.
- Provide hands-on quality review for the Brand Studio's work, ensuring a high level of execution and guiding better decision-making.
- Commission and direct external creative professionals such as photographers, illustrators, and motion designers.
- Develop and document brand system guidelines and decision-making frameworks to promote consistency and efficiency.
- Mentor designers at IC3 and IC4 levels through constructive feedback and collaborative work.
- Work with brand strategists, copywriters, product marketers, and leadership to define Mercury's presence across all communication channels.
- Define the role of AI in the creative process, setting standards for its use and developing guidelines for AI-assisted design.
Requirements
- A portfolio showcasing exceptional command of typography, layout, color, and composition in various brand contexts.
- A well-defined aesthetic philosophy, with the ability to articulate design principles and demonstrate a history of rigorous practice.
- Expertise in brand systems, with experience building for scale and maintaining consistency through brand evolution or growth.
- 7-10+ years of brand design experience, ideally from high-craft environments such as agencies, fashion, premium consumer brands, or design-focused technology companies.
- Proven experience operating at a staff level, demonstrating autonomy, influencing without direct authority, and shaping team output.
- Proficiency in Figma and experience contributing to or managing a design system.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, capable of clearly explaining design intent and impact.
- The ability to balance detailed execution with a broader strategic perspective.
- A clear understanding and practical experience using AI tools in creative work, with the ability to guide their appropriate application in design.

Practical notes
- US employees in New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Seattle: $189,400 - $236,700 base salary.
- US employees outside of New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Seattle: $170,400 - $213,000 base salary.
- Canadian employees (any location): $179,000 - $223,700 base salary.
- Compensation includes base salary, equity (stock options/RSUs), and benefits.
- Salary and equity ranges are competitive and regularly updated based on industry data.
- Offers are determined by experience, expertise, location, and internal pay equity.
