About the role
Mercury is on the lookout for a Staff Brand Designer who will play a pivotal role in enhancing our visual identity. This position is ideal for a designer with a keen eye for aesthetics and a strong focus on detail, capable of elevating the quality of design work within the team. You will take charge of intricate brand design projects and lead the output of the Brand Studio, ensuring that our visual representation aligns with our mission and values.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Set and uphold the quality benchmarks for Mercury's brand across various platforms, including marketing campaigns, digital interfaces, social media channels, and live events.
- Spearhead complex and impactful brand design initiatives from their initial concept through to final execution.
- Collaborate closely with creative leadership to influence the visual trajectory of Mercury, establishing standards for typography, imagery, layout, and motion graphics.
- Conduct thorough quality reviews of the Brand Studio's output, ensuring high standards of execution and fostering informed decision-making.
- Engage and oversee external creative talent, including photographers, illustrators, and motion graphic designers, to enhance brand storytelling.
- Create and maintain comprehensive brand system guidelines and decision-making frameworks to ensure consistency and operational efficiency.
- Mentor junior designers at IC3 and IC4 levels, providing constructive feedback and fostering a collaborative environment.
- Partner with brand strategists, copywriters, product marketers, and leadership to articulate Mercury's brand voice across all communication platforms.
- Explore the integration of AI in the creative workflow, establishing guidelines for its effective use in design processes.
Requirements
- A robust portfolio that demonstrates mastery of typography, layout, color theory, and composition across diverse brand contexts.
- A well-articulated aesthetic philosophy, showcasing a history of disciplined design practice and the ability to communicate design principles effectively.
- Deep expertise in brand systems, with a proven track record of building scalable solutions and maintaining brand integrity through periods of growth or change.
- 7 to 10 years of experience in brand design, preferably within high-quality environments such as design agencies, fashion brands, premium consumer goods, or tech companies focused on design.
- Demonstrated ability to operate at a senior level, influencing team dynamics and outcomes without direct authority.
- Proficiency in Figma and experience in contributing to or managing a design system effectively.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the capacity to articulate design intent and its implications clearly.
- A balanced approach to detailed execution while maintaining a strategic overview of design projects.
- Familiarity with AI tools in creative contexts, with the ability to guide their appropriate application in design work.

- For employees based in New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Seattle, the base salary ranges from $189,400 to $236,700.
- For employees located outside of New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Seattle, the salary ranges from $170,400 to $213,000.
- Canadian employees, regardless of location, can expect a salary between $179,000 and $223,700.
- The compensation package includes a base salary, equity options (stock options/RSUs), and a comprehensive benefits plan.
