Senior Backend Engineer

About the role

Melio is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to help build the financial command center for small businesses. You will work on integrating our payment platform with Xero to create a unified ecosystem for millions of users.

What you'll do

• Own the full development lifecycle from initial design and coding to testing and production deployment.
• Build and maintain systems that process over $100B in annual payments.
• Collaborate with team members to influence product direction and user experience.
• Manage real-time payment processing, data synchronization, and API integrations.
• Make architectural decisions within a high-scale financial environment.

Requirements

• Minimum 7 years of professional experience in software engineering, including architecture and design.
• Practical experience managing microservices and cloud-based production environments.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
• A strong desire to learn new technologies and step outside of your comfort zone.

Nice to have

• Experience as an independent, fast learner who contributes to a strong, open engineering culture.

Skills & tools

• Languages: TypeScript, Node.js, Python
• Infrastructure: AWS Serverless, SAM CLI, CloudFormation
• Databases: Relational and document databases
