AI Code Engineering Lead

About the role

Madhive seeks an AI Code Engineering Lead to dramatically accelerate engineering processes using AI-native methods and tools. This role is crucial for an R&D company where engineering speed is a primary advantage. You will develop and scale an agentic coding platform, enabling AI to generate production code for engineers to review rather than write.

What you'll do

• Take ownership of AI-native engineering practices, evaluation frameworks, reusable AI components, and developer tools to significantly boost output.
• Manage a portfolio of initial velocity projects, ensuring each is integrated into the CTO's organization, which handles architecture, delivery, and subsequent versions.
• Facilitate smooth transitions to the engineering organization, ensuring every acceleration project has a designated owner within the CTO's team from the start.
• Document successful approaches into repeatable "golden path" playbooks, including deployment patterns, connector templates, evaluation frameworks, and observability standards.
• Incorporate field insights back into platform teams to amplify organizational wins.

Requirements

• Possess a strong technical background, equivalent to a staff engineer (10+ years of experience), with a proven track record of shipping production code at that scope.
• Demonstrated ability to drive the adoption of at least one engineering practice or tool across an entire organization, including product and engineering teams.
• Expert knowledge of agentic coding tools across the entire software development lifecycle, including AI coding agents, evaluation/observability frameworks, CI/CD, and testing.
• Essential experience in building or operating an evaluation harness.
• Exhibit resilience when facing ambiguous problems and a strong interest in business operations.
• Rigorously analyze how AI can increase output and specifically design against stability risks.
• Hands-on experience with evaluation-driven development, including precision/recall benchmarks, human review queues, and audit trails, beyond just setting up an evaluation harness.

Practical notes

This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days per week at Madhive HQ in New York City's Financial District, with potential travel to other Madhive locations. The compensation range provided is an approximation; the final offer will depend on experience, skills, and internal equity. Madhive will not be using third-party recruiting agencies for this search.
