Generative AI Engineer

About the role

Mactores is seeking a Generative AI Engineer to help build and deploy AI agents for AWS modernization projects. This role involves assisting with the development of AI components, integrating agent tools, and participating in architectural discussions. You will contribute to real-world projects focused on data, application, and database modernization.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Support the deployment of agentic AI and AWS modernization solutions across data platforms, applications, databases, and AI agents for applications.
• Contribute to building and testing AI agent components, orchestration, retrieval pipelines, and evaluation frameworks, using actual data.
• Help transform existing product or process features into callable agent tools under guidance.
• Observe and contribute to architecture sessions and customer discussions to understand design processes.
• Assist in documenting agent decisions and test evidence to ensure traceability and defensibility.
• Apply learnings from shadowing engagements to implement small, owned improvements.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in or recently graduated with a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Foundational knowledge of Python, and ideally TypeScript, gained from coursework, personal projects, or previous internships. Professional production experience is not required.
• A strong interest in agentic AI, including how agents plan, utilize tools, retrieve context, and are evaluated.
• Basic understanding of cloud concepts; prior exposure to AWS through coursework, certifications, or personal projects is beneficial.
• Comfortable with test-driven development practices and willing to learn to write test cases before coding.

Nice to have

• Personal projects or coursework involving orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph, CrewAI, or Strands Agents.
• Familiarity with Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) concepts like chunking, embeddings, and retrieval, even at a conceptual or academic level.
• AWS certifications in progress, such as Cloud Practitioner or Solutions Architect Associate.

Practical notes
