This role involves designing advanced missile and low-observable aerospace systems, guiding concepts from initial ideas to preliminary designs. You will collaborate with various engineering teams to bring innovative aerospace vehicles to life.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Create and assess advanced aircraft and missile configurations based on mission needs.
- Conduct multidisciplinary trade studies, balancing factors like aerodynamics, weight, propulsion, manufacturing, and mission effectiveness.
- Apply vehicle design knowledge to evaluate architectural choices and direct configuration development.
- Help integrate vehicle-level requirements across different engineering disciplines.
- Analyze design options, pinpoint technical risks, and offer recommendations for engineering decisions.
- Work with conceptual and vehicle design engineers to advance concepts into detailed vehicle designs.
- Provide technical input during design reviews, prototype development, and flight testing.
- Mentor and support junior engineers through technical guidance and design reviews.
Requirements
- 8 or more years of experience in aerospace vehicle design, aircraft design, missile design, or similar advanced aerospace development.
- Proven experience in developing or evaluating complete vehicle configurations.
- Strong understanding of aerospace vehicle performance, aerodynamics, propulsion integration, structures, and multidisciplinary design tradeoffs.
- Experience providing engineering recommendations for complex and conflicting system requirements.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Nice to have
- Experience designing missile systems, tactical UAS, or advanced aerospace vehicles.
- Experience with low-observable vehicle design, signature reduction, or survivability analysis.
- High-speed aerospace design experience.
- Experience supporting prototype development and flight testing.
