About the role
Mach develops autonomous defense platforms and requires a dedicated engineer to manage the entire CNC tooling ecosystem. You will oversee tool standardization, data management, and process optimization to improve production efficiency and part quality. This is a hands-on position based on the shop floor that requires close collaboration with manufacturing, programming, and supply chain teams.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Manage the CNC tool database, including assemblies, holders, offsets, cutting data, and standard libraries.
- Standardize tooling across all machines and CAM platforms to ensure repeatability.
- Define specifications for shrink-fit systems, gauge length, runout, balance, and coolant delivery.
- Select tools to optimize the balance between cycle time, tool life, surface finish, and cost.
- Integrate tooling data across CAM software, presetters, machine controls, and smart cabinets.
- Oversee inventory levels, including reorder points and consumption tracking.
- Conduct root-cause analysis for machining issues such as chatter, breakage, and dimensional drift.
- Implement RFID or barcode tracking systems and develop training materials for shop floor staff.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in CNC machining, tool crib management, or manufacturing engineering.
- Expertise in cutting tools, toolholding, coatings, geometries, and material-specific feed and speed strategies.
- Proficiency in standardizing tooling for milling, turning, drilling, boring, and threading.
- Familiarity with CAM systems, tool libraries, and production workflows.
- Ability to create and maintain technical documentation and standards.
- Capacity to work with urgency in a high-paced manufacturing environment.
Nice to have
- Experience with digital tool management platforms or integrated CAM libraries.
- Proficiency in SQL for database management and reporting.
- Familiarity with Vericut, NCSIMUL, Mastercam, Fusion, NX CAM, ESPRIT, or Hypermill.
- Background in aerospace, defense, propulsion, or UAV hardware manufacturing.
- Experience transitioning high-mix, low-volume production into higher-rate output.
