About the role
Lyra Health provides mental health support to over 20 million people globally through its integrated platform, Lyra Empower. We are seeking a Legal Consultant to provide immediate, telephonic legal guidance and crisis intervention to our corporate clients. This role focuses on delivering clear, actionable advice to individuals navigating personal or professional legal challenges.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Conduct telephonic assessments to provide accurate guidance on South African law, including family, consumer, civil, and criminal matters.
- Manage high-stress situations such as domestic violence or unlawful evictions according to statutory requirements.
- Assist clients with basic legal concepts, including contracts, property, taxation, pensions, retirement, third-party claims, and wills.
- Refer complex matters requiring formal litigation to appropriate external bodies like Legal Aid SA, the Small Claims Court, or Rent Boards.
- Document all consultations accurately while maintaining strict confidentiality and compliance with POPIA standards.
Requirements
- Matric (Senior Certificate).
- Legum Baccalaureus (LLB) or BA (LAW) degree.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a call center environment.
- Reliable backup power supply and a stable, high-speed internet connection for remote work.
- Ability to translate complex legal terminology into simple language for diverse audiences.
- Strong emotional resilience to handle distressed clients and high-pressure situations.
Nice to have
- Previous experience working within an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) or a clinical/psychological environment.
Skills & tools
- Telephonic communication and customer service.
- Microsoft Office suite proficiency.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Case management software and legal database navigation.
- Administrative and record-keeping skills.
