About the role
Lyra Health provides mental health care to over 20 million people and is currently expanding its AI-powered platform, Lyra Empower. We are seeking a backend engineer to design and maintain the infrastructure that supports our generative AI and machine learning features. You will work alongside data scientists and clinicians to build production systems that improve clinical outcomes.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Develop backend services to support machine learning and generative AI product features.
- Build and maintain infrastructure that ensures system scalability, performance, and reliability.
- Manage the deployment and lifecycle of applications within production environments.
- Write code daily to solve complex technical challenges.
Requirements
- 4+ years of professional experience delivering production-ready software.
- High proficiency in Python.
- Experience with asynchronous Python web frameworks like FastAPI and data streaming via WebSockets or Server-Sent Events.
- Practical knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes for application deployment.
- Experience working with relational and low-latency database systems.
- Proven ability to integrate RAG into AI features and build generative AI chatbots.
- Experience using LLM observability tools such as Langfuse to monitor token usage, latency, and output quality.
- Familiarity with LLM orchestration frameworks like LangChain or LlamaIndex.
- Experience integrating foundation model APIs including OpenAI, Anthropic, or AWS Bedrock.
- Ability to build systems from the ground up and adapt to new technologies.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Nice to have
- Experience managing vector databases.
- Experience with Celery.
- Experience defining and using Protobuf messages.
- Production coding experience in Java or Kotlin.
- Experience building on AWS cloud infrastructure.
- Background working with sensitive data within the healthcare sector.
