Forward Deployed Engineer

About the role

Luma is building unified general intelligence capable of operating within the physical world. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will bridge the gap between our core models and functional customer systems. You will work directly with clients to identify their operational challenges and engineer production-ready solutions that integrate our technology into their workflows.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Collaborate with customers to analyze their specific constraints and determine the most effective technical solutions.
• Develop and maintain production systems using Luma APIs, internal tools, and models.
• Manage the full project lifecycle, from initial client discovery to final deployment and iteration.
• Create custom solutions to bridge platform gaps and identify recurring needs to inform our internal R&D and product roadmaps.
• Utilize AI tools to speed up development while maintaining high standards for system reliability and engineering judgment.
• Complete a 90-day onboarding process involving customer immersion, system deployment, and platform feedback.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of professional software engineering experience with a history of shipping end-to-end projects.
• Proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language such as Python, TypeScript, or Go.
• Bachelor degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
• Ability to navigate the full stack and rapidly master new systems.
• Willingness to travel to client locations as required.

Nice to have

• Experience building and maintaining systems with active users.
• High level of agency and the ability to prioritize tasks in ambiguous environments.
• Proven track record of translating customer feedback into technical requirements.
• Strong communication skills, particularly in explaining complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
