About the role
Lightning AI is seeking its first Data Engineer to build and maintain the company's data infrastructure. This role is crucial for improving product decisions, accelerating model development, and streamlining operations. You will report to the VP of Product and be responsible for data reliability across the organization.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Design and manage ETL/ELT pipelines for GPU telemetry, product usage, operational, and customer data.
- Create and maintain well-documented, clean data tables for analysts and data scientists.
- Ensure end-to-end data quality through schema management, freshness monitoring, lineage tracking, and alerting.
- Collaborate with engineering and go-to-market teams to implement new data tracking.
- Support product, infrastructure, and machine learning teams by resolving data-related blockers.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or similar data-focused positions.
- Extensive knowledge of data modeling, ETL pipelines, and data warehouse architecture.
- Strong technical background in SQL, Python, and modern data stack tools.
- Experience working with Data Science, Product, and Engineering leaders to deliver key product metrics and user behavior insights.
- Demonstrated ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on technical execution.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to various audiences.
- Experience scaling analytics functions from an early stage to maturity in dynamic environments.
- Proven track record of establishing data governance, quality standards, and best practices.
- A proactive approach, prioritizing action and effectiveness over perfection.
- A "full-stack mindset" willing to tackle problems comprehensively.

Practical notes
This role requires working in the NYC office two days per week.
