About the role
Liftoff is seeking an International Tax Manager to lead tax compliance and planning activities across all global operations. This role is responsible for overseeing tax obligations in multiple international jurisdictions where the company maintains a presence or conducts business. The manager will partner closely with the finance and legal teams to ensure full regulatory adherence and to identify opportunities for optimizing the company's worldwide tax position. This is a remote position aligned with Pacific Timezone business hours, offering flexibility while maintaining collaboration with a distributed team.

What you'll do
- Manage international tax compliance filings and ensure timely submission across all operating jurisdictions and subsidiaries worldwide.
- Prepare and review global tax provisions, deferred tax asset calculations, and valuation allowance assessments each quarter.
- Advise the finance and operations teams on tax implications arising from cross-border transactions, mergers, and corporate restructuring.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive tax risk assessments for each international market where the company currently operates.
- Coordinate with external tax advisors and independent auditors during annual review cycles and regulatory examination processes.
- Analyze foreign tax credit utilization and identify strategies to optimize the worldwide effective tax rate for the organization.
- Lead the preparation of transfer pricing documentation and provide direct support during related audits or inquiries.
- Monitor international tax legislation changes and recommend timely adjustments to internal processes, policies, and procedures.
- Collaborate with the human resources department on expatriate tax equalization planning and international assignment tax matters.
- Streamline and improve tax reporting workflows to enhance accuracy, reduce close cycle timelines, and support audit readiness.
- Support the Vice President of Finance in strategic planning for international expansion initiatives and market entry decisions.
- Oversee sales and use tax compliance for digital goods and services sold across multiple international markets.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related quantitative field is required for this position.
- A minimum of seven years of progressive international tax experience within a corporate or professional services environment.
- CPA certification or an equivalent professional accounting credential is strongly preferred by the hiring team.
- Demonstrated experience managing tax compliance obligations across multiple foreign jurisdictions simultaneously is considered essential for success.
- Thorough working knowledge of international tax treaties, transfer pricing regulations, and foreign reporting standards is necessary.
- Hands-on experience working with ERP or financial systems to extract, validate, and reconcile tax data accurately.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting complex tax topics clearly to senior leadership and stakeholders.
- Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities and meet strict regulatory filing deadlines without fail or exception.
Nice to have
- Master's degree in taxation or an MBA with a concentration in tax matters is a plus.
- Prior experience working at a venture-backed or high-growth technology company is valued and welcomed.
- Familiarity with ASC 740 and international financial reporting standards as they apply to tax provisions.
- Experience managing tax audits or examinations with foreign tax authorities on behalf of the company directly.
- Knowledge of digital services tax frameworks and emerging global tax regulations affecting technology and marketing businesses.
Skills & tools
- Proficiency in international tax compliance software and global research databases for efficient daily workflows.
- Working knowledge of ERP platforms such as NetSuite, SAP, or Oracle for managing tax-related data.
- Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, complex formulas, macros, and financial data modeling capabilities.
- Experience with tax provision software such as Bloomberg Tax, Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE, or similar platforms.
- Understanding of multi-entity consolidation processes and intercompany transaction reporting across international subsidiaries and branches.
- Ability to interpret and apply complex tax regulations accurately across different countries and regulatory regions.
- Familiarity with tax technology automation tools and process improvement methodologies to drive meaningful efficiency gains.
Practical notes
- This role operates on a fully remote basis with core working hours aligned to Pacific Timezone schedules.
- The International Tax Manager reports directly to the Vice President of Finance at Liftoff and collaborates cross-functionally.
- Occasional travel to regional offices or industry conferences may be required once or twice per calendar year.
