About the role
Life360 is seeking a Director of People Operations to lead the expansion of our HR operations function. This role is central to driving operational excellence, implementing automation, and managing the changes necessary to elevate our team's effectiveness as the company grows. You will guide a team of specialists, empowering them to move beyond incremental process improvements to redesigning and automating core functions, ensuring People Operations scales efficiently with the business.

What you'll do
- Examine existing People Operations procedures to pinpoint areas for automation, AI integration, and process redesign that can reduce manual tasks, shorten completion times, and improve accuracy.
- Guide the team in adopting AI-powered tools for essential HR functions like onboarding, offboarding, compliance, ticketing, and reporting, establishing clear adoption targets and measuring outcomes.
- Champion a shift in the team's operational model from a task-list approach to data-driven, automated processes, requiring proactive change management.
- Identify and implement efficient, cost-effective solutions to enhance the People Team's productivity through infrastructure development, increased automation, and responsible AI use.
- Provide direct management to a team of experienced HR Operations professionals, focusing on developing their expertise in operational efficiency, automation, and scalable process design.
- Establish clear performance benchmarks, deliver consistent and timely feedback, and hold the team accountable for achieving measurable results.
- Foster skill development within the team, particularly in systems thinking and automation techniques.
- Develop and implement HR operational strategies to streamline and enhance processes across the entire employee lifecycle.
- Lead the planning, execution, and documentation of HR initiatives and projects, ensuring alignment with company objectives and demonstrable efficiency gains.
- Manage HR projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely delivery and active stakeholder engagement.
- Create detailed project plans, document procedures, manage resources and budgets, and provide regular progress updates to stakeholders.
- Oversee HR audits and compliance activities, ensuring adherence to SOX, local employment laws, and internal policies, while maintaining strong internal controls and promoting continuous improvement.
- Improve People Team service delivery by refining processes for prompt, accurate, and empathetic responses to employee inquiries via the ticketing system, using metrics and feedback for ongoing enhancements.
- Supervise all global HR operations, ensuring compliance with local laws and regulations in various regions.
- Collaborate with the systems and analytics team to ensure HR technology decisions support operational efficiency and are data-informed.
- In partnership with the Talent team, manage the Contractor Program, including vendor contracts, contractor tracking, onboarding, and offboarding.
- Work with cross-functional HR teams, including Talent Acquisition, HR Business Partners, Compensation, and Learning & Development, to ensure People Operations processes support business needs and integrate smoothly with other functions.
Requirements
- Minimum of 12 years of experience in People Operations or HR Operations, with a demonstrated history of operationalizing and scaling HR processes within a rapidly growing company.
- Proven experience leading a team through operational transformation, specifically modernizing team workflows and methods, with references able to attest to this capability.
- Hands-on experience implementing AI tools, workflow automation, or process redesign within an HR Operations context.
- A strong track record in people management, including performance management and coaching team members through significant operational changes.
- Practical expertise with HR systems and technology, capable of evaluating tools based on their operational effectiveness. Familiarity with modern HR technology stacks, including HRIS, workflow automation, and ticketing systems, is essential.
- A solid understanding of HR compliance, SOX requirements, and fundamental global employment laws.
- A data-centric approach, utilizing metrics to establish baselines, track progress, and advocate for change.
- A direct communication style and the confidence to engage in challenging conversations with team members, peers, and leadership.
