Senior Data Engineer II, AI Native
About the role
Life360 is seeking a Senior Data Engineer II to contribute to our AI-native data platform. You will be instrumental in developing and maintaining systems that process and store vast amounts of user data, enabling real-time analytics, machine learning, and experimentation. This role requires a strong engineering foundation and a proactive approach to data system excellence.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Design, construct, and manage distributed data pipelines for both streaming and batch data, covering ingestion, transformation, and storage.
- Implement automated testing and hardening for data workflows to ensure operational stability at scale.
- Develop logical and physical data models that adapt to changing business requirements.
- Build and support features crucial for machine learning model development.
- Partner with product, analytics, and data science teams to extract business value from data.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience working with high-volume data infrastructure.
- Extensive knowledge of a modern cloud data warehouse or lakehouse, such as Databricks, Snowflake, or BigQuery, on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Proficiency in Python and SQL, including the ability to write and optimize complex queries.
- Practical experience with dbt.
- Experience with large-scale data processing frameworks like Spark or Presto/Trino.
- Solid understanding of data modeling, partitioning techniques, storage formats, and optimizing for analytical performance.
- Hands-on experience using LLMs for tasks like code generation and analysis, including critically reviewing AI-generated output for quality and adherence to standards, and taking ownership of the final work.
- Familiarity with modern data engineering tools, including orchestration (Airflow, Databricks Workflows), CI/CD (GitHub Actions), and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, DABs).
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.

Practical notes
- Salary range: $148,000 - $216,500 USD annually.
- Compensation includes base pay, equity, and a comprehensive benefits package.
