Job description
Sr. Staff AI Security Engineer, AI Native Platform
About the role
Life360 is building an AI-native company and needs a senior security engineer to protect its evolving AI infrastructure. You will work within the AI Native Platform team, collaborating with engineers to secure every aspect of the platform's development and operation. This role involves hands-on execution and architectural influence, defining and implementing security patterns for novel AI systems.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Establish secure methods for accessing advanced AI models, creating and enforcing access controls and authorization frameworks.
- Develop secure patterns for managing external tool integrations, including risk assessment and authorization for their use.
- Design and implement identity and authorization models for automated agents, ensuring service identities, scoped credentials, and minimal privilege access.
- Build systems for AI agent observability and defense against adversarial attacks, including telemetry pipelines and prompt injection defenses.
- Influence the security of the common AI end-user platform, implementing access controls, data boundaries, and abuse detection.
- Secure the shared knowledge layer for AI systems, defining access and data governance for retrieval augmented and reasoning applications.
- Integrate AI supply chain integrity into the platform, establishing model provenance and dependency controls.
- Collaborate with Privacy, Legal, and Data Platform teams to ensure appropriate controls for sensitive data, including real-time location and information about minors.
Requirements
- A minimum of 12 years of experience in security engineering, with deep expertise in application security, cloud security, identity and access management (IAM), or threat detection.
- Demonstrated ability to build and deploy security controls that are practical and widely adopted in production environments.
- Hands-on experience with large language models (LLMs) and agentic systems, including building, testing, and securing prompt pipelines, RAG architectures, and multi-agent orchestration.
- Strong understanding of IAM principles for non-human systems, including service identities, OAuth, secrets management, RBAC/ABAC, and scaled least-privilege architectures.
- Experience with production telemetry and detection, including defining detection strategies and building response plans for emerging threat surfaces.
- Comfort navigating ambiguity and working with systems under development, including creating initial standards and scaling successful approaches.
- Excellent cross-functional communication skills, with the ability to articulate risk, tradeoffs, and technical decisions to diverse stakeholders.
- Familiarity with frameworks like NIST AI RMF and OWASP LLM Top 10, as well as compliance environments for large-scale consumer data.
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Nice to have
- Experience securing frontier model APIs, managing tool use authorization, or governing AI system access at scale.
- Hands-on experience with multi-agent orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph, AutoGen, or CrewAI, and their associated trust, identity, and authorization challenges.
- Familiarity with knowledge graph architectures, vector stores, or RAG systems, and their specific access control and data boundary considerations.
- Experience with red teaming or adversarial testing of AI systems, including prompt injection, jailbreaks, data extraction, model inversion, or supply chain attacks.
- Background in consumer technology or other industries where the sensitivity of personal data is a critical product requirement.
- Experience designing or reviewing security for internal enterprise AI platforms used by non-technical employees.
