Principal AI Security Engineer, AI Native Platform

About the role

Life360 is building an AI-first company, and we need a seasoned security leader to architect and implement the defenses for our AI infrastructure. You will be instrumental in defining how we secure our AI systems, from model access to agent orchestration, ensuring the safety of our users' sensitive data. This role demands both strategic vision and hands-on technical expertise.

What you'll do

• Establish the security strategy for accessing advanced AI models and managing their usage, including defining risk frameworks and authorization structures.
• Design the identity and trust mechanisms for AI agents, covering authentication, credential management, and least-privilege access.
• Develop the security approach for AI systems in production, focusing on defenses against prompt injection, handling adversarial inputs, and establishing monitoring and response protocols.
• Shape the security architecture for shared AI platforms, implementing access controls, data boundaries, and abuse detection.
• Define security and access controls for the central knowledge layer to prevent unauthorized data exposure.
• Integrate AI supply chain integrity into the platform, including model provenance and dependency management.
• Collaborate with Privacy, Legal, and Data Platform teams to embed necessary controls for handling sensitive user data.

Requirements

• Over 15 years of experience in security engineering, with deep expertise in application security, cloud security, identity and access management, or threat detection.
• Proven experience defining platform-level security architecture, including trust models and data boundary strategies that balance security with development velocity.
• Practical experience working with large language models (LLMs) and agentic systems, including building, testing, and securing prompt pipelines, RAG architectures, and multi-agent orchestration.
• Strong understanding of identity and access management for non-human systems, including service identities, secrets management, and RBAC/ABAC at scale.
• Experience defining architectural approaches for production telemetry and detection.
• Ability to thrive in ambiguous environments and drive initiatives from inception to completion.
• Strategic judgment for build vs. buy decisions and the ability to guide investment choices.
• Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration with engineering, product, legal, privacy, and leadership.
• Willingness to contribute to the broader AI security industry discourse.
• Familiarity with NIST AI RMF, OWASP LLM Top 10, and consumer data compliance frameworks.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience securing frontier model APIs, tool-use authorization, or AI system access governance at scale.
• Hands-on experience with multi-agent orchestration frameworks like LangGraph, AutoGen, or CrewAI.
• Familiarity with knowledge graph architectures, vector stores, or RAG systems and their associated security challenges.
• Experience with red teaming or adversarial testing of AI systems.
• Background in consumer technology with a focus on personal data sensitivity.
• Experience designing security for internal enterprise AI platforms.
