About the role
Join a learning technology company focused on helping students build academic and life skills. This role involves supporting a usability and learning research lab, working directly with children and families. You will help gather and organize data to understand how children learn and interact with educational tools.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Lead usability, playtesting, and learning sessions with children and their parents, following lab manager guidance.
- Adhere to research protocols and session guides, noting any deviations.
- Record detailed observations and manage data capture during sessions, including video, screen recordings, and biometric data.
- Help set up, calibrate, and dismantle lab equipment for research sessions.
- Ensure the lab is prepared by checking equipment, managing supplies, and assisting with scheduling.
- Support participant coordination, including screening, scheduling, and consent forms.
- Transcribe, code, and organize qualitative data from research sessions.
- Assist with entering, cleaning, and basic analysis of quantitative data.
- Contribute to summarizing findings, creating highlight reels, and preparing presentation materials.
- Establish trust with child participants to ensure their comfort and engagement during studies.
- Always maintain ethical research standards and child safety guidelines.
- Adjust facilitation methods to suit various age groups and learning environments.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Human Development, Education, Cognitive Science, HCI, or a related area.
- Prior experience working directly with children, such as in research, tutoring, teaching, childcare, or camp settings.
- Comfortable using technology and eager to learn specialized lab tools and software.
- Meticulous attention to detail and consistent adherence to research protocols.
- Dependable, organized, and capable of managing logistics for multiple research sessions.
Nice to have
- Experience with qualitative research techniques, including interviews, observation, or think-aloud protocols.
- Understanding of usability or user experience research principles.
- Familiarity with tools for video annotation, screen recording, or behavioral coding.
- Background in educational technology, game design, or child psychology.
- Graduate-level coursework or research experience in a relevant field.
