About the Role
In this Platform Engineer role, you will own the end-to-end lifecycle of our data platform, ensuring that intake, provisioning, and delivery meet stringent reliability and governance standards. You will automate the creation and management of Snowflake environments while implementing robust access controls and resource optimization strategies. A core part of your work will involve designing intake pipelines that explicitly capture platform requirements and operational constraints for data operations teams. You will establish comprehensive observability dashboards to monitor performance, availability, and cost efficiency across our AWS and Azure cloud services. The position demands refactoring CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitLab, Liquibase, or Redgate to accelerate the deployment of changes in a safe and auditable manner. You will orchestrate deep integrations between Snowflake, AWS, and Azure services, including object storage and identity management, to create a cohesive platform. Monitoring query workloads and Snowflake warehouse utilization will be essential for tuning efficiency and controlling overall platform spend. You will also support the implementation of secure data sharing models and governance practices to facilitate seamless cross-team collaboration. When production incidents arise, you will lead the response, coordinate thorough root cause analysis, and partner with Data Engineering to implement permanent fixes. This role is critical to eliminating operational toil and building a foundation that empowers the rest of the organization.
Key Facts
This position is based in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States, and follows a defined hybrid work model. You are expected to work from the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday to foster close collaboration with the team. The annual compensation for this position is explicitly set between $130,000 and $160,000 USD. The role requires a minimum of 4+ years of cumulative experience in platform, cloud, or data platform operations. You must possess proven, hands-on experience administering and operating Snowflake in a production environment.
What You'll Do
- Design and build intake pipelines that capture platform requirements and constraints for data operations.
- Automate the provisioning of Snowflake environments alongside the implementation of fine-grained access controls.
- Optimize cloud resource allocation to ensure reliability while driving down unnecessary platform spend.
- Establish observability dashboards that provide deep insights into performance, availability, and cost metrics.
- Refactor existing CI/CD workflows using GitLab, Liquibase, or Redgate to accelerate the delivery of safe deployments.
- Orchestrate complex integrations between Snowflake, AWS, and Azure services, including storage and identity management.
- Monitor and analyze query workloads and warehouse usage patterns to identify and resolve inefficiencies.
- Support the implementation of secure data sharing models and governance practices for cross-team collaboration.
- Respond to production incidents by coordinating with stakeholders and implementing corrective fixes.
- Work closely with Data Engineering partners to drive initiatives that enhance operational excellence and reduce manual effort.
- Maintain and improve the reliability and scalability of the core data platform through automation and monitoring.
- Contribute to architecture discussions that shape the long-term vision for the data platform.
Requirements
- Bring a minimum of 4+ years of professional experience in platform, cloud, or data platform operations roles.
- Demonstrate a proven track record of Snowflake administration and optimization in live production systems.
- Design and maintain database CI/CD pipelines that ensure changes are deployed safely and repeatedly without error.
- Operate with confidence on major public cloud platforms, specifically AWS or Azure, managing object storage, serverless compute, messaging, and identity.
- Write robust Python, SQL, and Bash scripts to automate complex workflows and resolve intricate platform issues.
- Support the production operations of ETL/ELT pipelines and streaming technologies such as Confluent Kafka.
- Adhere to Git-based development workflows and actively participate in technical architecture discussions.
- Meet the specific hybrid work location requirements, including the in-office schedule of Tuesday through Thursday.
