Pet Actuarial Lead at Lemonade
About the role
This position will be instrumental in shaping the pricing direction for our innovative pet insurance offerings. You will collaborate across departments to enhance accuracy and fairness in our pricing models and expansion strategies. This role offers significant responsibility within the Actuarial team from the outset.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Manage state-specific pricing plans and rate recommendations for the pet product, overseeing their lifecycle.
- Spearhead the creation and implementation of predictive modeling initiatives in partnership with Data Science.
- Construct and maintain machine learning models that directly influence pricing accuracy and customer results.
- Develop pricing approaches for entering new states, balancing business expansion with actuarial principles.
- Contribute to the design of internal pricing tools that enable real-time, large-scale decision-making.
- Prepare documentation for rate filings of new machine learning models to ensure compliance and market leadership.
- Provide recommendations for pricing and underwriting actions based on performance analysis and market trends.
- Guide and develop a team of analysts, fostering high performance while allowing for individual growth.
Requirements
- A minimum of 7 years of actuarial experience in health or pet health insurance.
- Fellowship of the Actuarial Society (FSA) designation is required.
- At least 2 years of experience leading and developing a team.
- A Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline.
- Proficiency in R or Python, and SQL for data retrieval.
- Familiarity with predictive modeling techniques, including GLMs, decision trees, gradient boosting, random forests, and clustering.
- Ability to work effectively and independently in a remote setting while maintaining strong connections with colleagues.
- A strong interest in AI and a commitment to continuous learning alongside technological advancements.
