About the role
LeafLink is seeking a seasoned professional to join our team for a contract position. This role focuses on managing financial crime risks within the unique landscape of the cannabis industry. You will be instrumental in ensuring compliance and mitigating risks for our diverse client base.
Key facts
What you'll do
Investigate alerts related to anti-money laundering, negative news, OFAC, and PEP screenings.
Perform due diligence and ongoing assessments of cannabis-related businesses.
Prepare Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) specific to the marijuana industry, adhering to FinCEN guidelines.
Assist in refining transaction monitoring rules to address specific criminal typologies.
Manage the onboarding and ongoing monitoring processes for cannabis banking clients, including license verification and beneficial ownership analysis.
Conduct periodic reviews of client accounts to ensure alignment with operational profiles.
Support regulatory examinations and internal/external audits by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries.
Requirements
A minimum of 5 years of experience in BSA/AML compliance, with a preference for fintech and cannabis banking backgrounds.
Proven experience filing marijuana-related SARs in accordance with FinCEN's guidance for the Marijuana-Related Businesses (MRB) framework.
Demonstrated understanding of BSA compliance models and how AML obligations apply across partner programs.
Experience with AML transaction monitoring platforms such as Abrigo BAM+, Actimize, or Verafin.
Familiarity with cannabis-specific compliance tools like METRC, BioTrack, Shield Assure, or RiskScout.
Ability to analyze state cannabis license data, understand different operational structures (dispensary, cultivator, processor), and assess their consistency with banking activities.
