What you'll do
Design and construct backend services that support core commerce functions and industry integrations.
Develop and maintain production-ready services using Python and Django.
Collaborate with product and engineering teams to architect scalable system solutions.
Participate in architectural discussions, contributing to service-oriented and event-driven systems.
Write clear, secure, and well-tested backend code.
Enhance system reliability, performance, and observability.
Build and manage APIs for internal services, external partners, and third-party connections.
Work with relational databases like PostgreSQL, including schema design and query optimization.
Refactor and modernize existing systems as the platform evolves.
Deploy and manage services within AWS environments using modern cloud infrastructure practices.
Contribute to and improve CI/CD pipelines for efficient and safe testing and deployments.
Troubleshoot production issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement lasting fixes.
Participate in code reviews, promoting strong engineering standards and operational excellence.
Requirements
A minimum of 5 years of experience as a backend engineer in a production setting.
Proficiency in building backend services with Python and Django.
Demonstrated experience designing, building, and maintaining REST APIs.
Experience working with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL, and handling substantial datasets.
Solid understanding of backend application architecture, data modeling, and service design.
Strong debugging, problem-solving, and production troubleshooting capabilities.
Familiarity with distributed systems and event-driven architectures.
Experience with asynchronous processing, background jobs, or event-based workflows.
Familiarity with containerized environments like Docker.
Experience deploying and operating services in AWS or comparable cloud platforms.
Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, observability, and operational best practices.
Nice to have
Experience in regulated sectors such as financial services or cannabis.
Familiarity with Kubernetes.
Experience with SNS, SQS, or other event buses.
