Developer Experience Lead

About the role

This role is central to how developers interact with our banking platform. You will be responsible for ensuring our documentation and communications about platform changes are clear, accurate, and easy to use, making it a competitive advantage for leadbank. You will own these critical surfaces end-to-end, with the opportunity to shape processes and potentially build a team over time.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Develop and manage the strategy and daily operations for our developer documentation site.
• Treat documentation as a product, focusing on improving its usability, discoverability, and how developers integrate with our services.
• Create comprehensive implementation guides, tutorials, and reference materials to help developers achieve their first success quickly.
• Establish and maintain documentation standards, style guides, and editorial workflows.
• Measure the effectiveness of documentation through analytics and user feedback, and use these insights for continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to ensure documentation is ready at the same time as new features.
• Own the partner-facing communications for planned platform changes, including feature releases, deprecations, and breaking changes.
• Maintain the official Changelog and Upcoming Changes pages as the primary source of truth for platform updates.
• Ensure clear communication of required actions, timelines, and impact for all partners affected by changes.
• Manage the process of capturing technical details from Product and Engineering, editing for clarity and customer impact before publishing.
• Translate complex technical concepts into easily understandable content for developers.
• Create onboarding materials, playbooks, and sample applications to accelerate developer success.
• Explore and implement AI tools to enhance documentation creation, maintenance, and quality.
• Build efficient workflows that enable Engineering and Product teams to contribute to documentation.
• Define the standards and processes for scaling developer experience functions within the company.

Requirements

• Minimum of 6 years of experience in developer experience, technical writing, developer education, or related fields.
• Exceptional written communication skills with a focus on clarity, precision, and usability, especially when communicating impactful changes.
• Ability to understand API specifications and object models to accurately document technical systems.
• Proven experience working closely with engineering teams and technical, API-first products.
• Strong product sense and genuine empathy for the developer audience.
• Familiarity with documentation platforms such as Mintlify, ReadMe, GitBook, or Docusaurus.
• Experience with docs-as-code workflows and GitHub.
• Comfort using AI tools to improve content creation and workflows.
• Demonstrated ability to set standards and operate independently to own a functional area.

Nice to have

• Experience building documentation as a product and measuring its impact using analytics.
• Prior ownership of developer or partner communications for platform changes.
• Experience designing developer onboarding experiences or creating reference architectures.
• Background in writing SDK documentation or working on API-first platforms.
• Previous work in fintech, payments, or other highly regulated industries.
